Features of an Internal Frame
Backpack
The single most important piece of gear for backpacking is
your backpack. It carries your gear, and in return, you carry
it. This is the reason why it’s important to get the best fit.
Fitting is not the only thing to consider, you also want a
backpack that can provide sturdy construction and convenient
features.
Internal frame backpacks are the most popular backpack
choice. They are popular among backpackers for a few reasons.
These backpacks are smaller than the alternative external
backpack. They also fit closer to your body. The combination of
the smaller size and closer fit makes them easier to carry.
External backpacks can easily throw a person off balance,
making falls more common. The following list focuses on the
more popular features of an internal frame backpack:
* Double lining. The bag will have an additional interior
lining. The lining carries the weight of the gear which
relieves the bottom from stress. This helps your pack last
longer.
* Hugs close to the body without being bulky. This is
important if you are an off trail backpacker. The thin profile
will allow you to move through tight spots without getting
caught up.
* Removable straps. These come in handy to use for carrying
your sleeping bag, mattress and other things.
* Load lifter straps. These allow you to shift the pack’s
weight from your hips to your shoulders or from your shoulders
to your hips.
* Double zipper closure. This is great when you have an
unexpected zipper problem. With two zippers you can usually
save yourself from having to figure out how to close it so you
do not lose the contents as you walk.
Extra features are nice to have in a backpack. They can
prove to be beneficial in a tough situation or just make
carrying the pack more comfortable. Fit is the number one thing
to look for in a backpack, but it isn’t the only thing to think
about. Unless you are just looking for the bare essentials,
then you will probably want to check out all the features
available in backpacks.
